The Works

Conversion of staff accommodation on the second and third floors into luxury flats in a live care village.

Features of Project

The work was undertaken in an occupied care village. No internal access was available, so all access was via an external scaffold and, for the works to the third floor, an opening via the roof.

Relationship with Client

The works, by their nature, involved scaffolding outside residents' windows to allow the construction of new dormer windows.  Access was also required to allow a large amount of demolition and rebuilding works immediately above the residents' flats. Daily, and often hourly, dialogue was held with the care home manager to try and minimise noise and disruption to the residents. When services needed interrupting, for new connections, special arrangements had to be made as some residents in the care home part of the village could not have their services interrupted.

Health & Safety

Special measures were undertaken to ensure segregation of residents and the works. Special protection was put in place to ensure minimum distruption to residents.
