The works
These were carried out in two separate phases. Time was allowed between phases for Archaeological investigations to be carried out on a Roman Road that was located during Ground Investigation works carried out prior to Demolition Phase commencing.
Phase 1:
The demolition of an existing detached building (former public house/fast food restaurant).
Phase 2:
New Build Single Storey Retail Unit.
Works included: structural steel framework, brick/block walls, steel sheet roof, timber cladding, drainage, new vehicle cross over, curtain walling, M&E and A/C installation, new electrical and water mains supplies, solar panel heating for water, tinted polished concrete floors.
Landscaping works including Permeable Block Paving to the main car parking areas.
A period of time between phases was included within the programme for Archaeological investigations to be carried out on the Roman road.
We carried out the initial dig for these investigations under the direction of the Archaeological team.
There was also a Chestnut tree that was to be retained as part of the landscaping works. This tree was subject to a Preservation Order.
Root protection was installed and, during the works, the tree was regularly watered and inspected by the Local Authority's Arboreal Expert.
(During the works our SWMP was subject to an audit by the Environmental Agency. Our completed post contract SWMP was sent to the Agency and we await their comments)
There was no BREEAM, CCS or Value Engineering on this contract.
Although some ‘Green’ initiatives were introduced as part of the scheme.
