The Works
Constructed in two sections.
1) Re-roofing the dining hall and renewing the commercial kitchen.
2) An extension to form an additional classroom.
Features of Project
Works to the dining hall and kitchen needed to be complete to allow occupation by the school in August 2010 giving a tight deadline of 8 weeks.
Work to the extension commenced at the same time as the works to the dining hall but with an extended completion date.
The project was negotiated with the client on an open book basis with an agreed percentage for overheads and profit.
Relationship with Client
Work in constructing the extension was carried out in the heart of a live school from September onwards. Daily contact was made with the Head Teacher to ensure that the smooth running of the school was not affected. Some works were conducted out of hours where necessary.
Health & Safety
The new extension was at the rear of the school and very awkward to access. The children were properly segregated from the works at all times to ensure their safety. Materials were delivered to site at times which did not clash with parents and children arriving or departing school. Banksmen were used when moving materials in public areas.
