The Works

The works consisted of the design and build of a new library in Dursley following demolition of the existing.

Features of Project

The construction of a new modern design library utilising steel frame construction, external cladding and feature glazing.

  • Innovative minimal tolerance steelwork design to reduce envelope thickness and maximise usable floor space
  • Close co-ordination and liaison with Stakeholders throughout design and construction periods to target budget reductions of originally over-budget scheme. (The required reduction in budget was achieved without any loss to the quality of finish of the building or its operational requirements)
  • Low emissivity glazing used throughout the building to reduce heat gains through glazed elevations.
  • ‘Just In Time’ materials delivery techniques were used due to the very restricted nature of the Site (the new building footprint covered the full site part occupied by the original library)
  • During the project, the ‘fit out’ of a number of community use rooms was added into the scope of the works. This large variation (approx 8% of the Contract Value) was, through careful planning and co-ordination of the works absorbed into the project programme with the Client's end date still being achieved
  • Project completed on time and handed over with Zero Defects
  • Hi-tech ‘Animaze’ projection system incorporated into scheme
